Sustainability Discussions: Modern Slavery
Date: 8 March, 2021
Where: Zoom - free and open to everyone
In 2018, the Global Slavery Index estimated that over 40 million people were involved in modern slavery worldwide. Modern slavery happens everywhere and ruins lives, infringing on fundamental human rights. It is also highly profitable, generating an estimated USD 150 billion in illicit profits annually.
So what does modern slavery look like? Which industries are most vulnerable and what are the threats for businesses by allowing it to continue? Importantly, what can businesses do about it, and what are the opportunities for businesses that support more ethical supply chains?
These are some of the questions we’ll explore in S-CONNECT’s next Sustainability Discussion when Sondre Høyseter from Hope for Justice will lead an interactive discussion on modern slavery, business, and solutions.
